Liatris pycnostachya is an iconic American praire perennial with spectacular tall spikes of tightly bunched lavender-purple coloured flowers. Clumps of grass-like foliage grow to around 150cm tall and 30cm wide. The unusual characteristic of the flowers are the way in which they begin blooming at the top and work their way down the single stem. This Liatris species grows well in both moist soils and in clay although they tolerate drier conditions. Blooming from January to March it is excellent in perennial borders, prairie gardens or naturalized areas. Butterflies, bees and other polinators love this plant. Plants supplied in 10cm pots
